NBEMS COMMUNITY EDUCATION New Britain EMS is proud to be your local American Heart Association (AHA) Community Training Center (CTC). The CTC is a key component of the AHA training network. The CTC provides support to the community, health care providers and local business and industry. Classes are scheduled at your convenience. We come to your organization and/or workplace (Minimum number of students required) or you may come to our training facility. We are convientley located in downtown New Britain, near Route’s 72 & 9 just off I-84. Healthcare Provider (Initial & Recertification) This course taught by American Heart Association BLS Instructors is designed to teach the skills of CPR for victims of all ages (including ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen), use of automated external defibrillator (AED), and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO) to healthcare providers. . Skills Validation for On-Line Recertification Programs This fast tract option is available for experienced providers recertifying their BLS, ACLS or PALS certification only. The student completes an online course then works one on one with our staff to complete their skill validation stations. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Initial & Recertification This is a new Innovative ACLS course, totally redesigned AHA ACLS is for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the resuscitation of a patient. ACLS emphasizes the importance of basic life support CPR to patient survival; the integration of effective BLS with ACLS interventions; and the importance of effective team interaction and communication during resuscitation. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Initial & Recertification The completely redesigned American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support course is based on new science evidence from the 2005 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC and a new teaching methodology. The goal of the PALS course is to aid the pediatric healthcare provider in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently and effectively manage critically ill infants and children, resulting in improved outcomes. Skills taught include recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest; the systematic approach to pediatric assessment; effective respiratory management; defibrillation and synchronized cardio version; intraosseous access and fluid bolus administration; and effective resuscitation team dynamics. CPR for Schools: The American Heart Association’s Heartsaver CPR in Schools Course is designed to teach middle and high school students the lifesaving skills of CPR, how to relieve choking, and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Friends & Family CPR The Family & Friends CPR Program allows families, friends and the general public – those who most likely would never attend a traditional CPR course – to learn the core skills of CPR in just a couple of hours at a setting in your community or even right in your home. (This is not a certification class and an American Heart Association course completion card is not issued) Heartsaver CPR with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) The Heartsaver AED Program enables students to learn the lifesaving skills of CPR, how to relieve choking, and how to use an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) Heartsaver First Aid & CPR with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) The Heartsaver First Aid & CPR/AED Program enables students to learn the lifesaving skills of CPR, how to relieve choking, and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). The second half of the program teaches students important life saving first aid techniques including recognizing heart attack and stroke symptoms to how to treat an injured employee that has visible bleeding and bleeding you can not see (called internal bleeding) causing the employee to go into shock.
