NBEMS SPECIAL OPERATIONS DIVISION
Emergency Preparedness NBEMS is an active participant in many local, regional and statewide planning efforts. NBEMS is a member of the Capital Region Emergency Planning Committee (CREPC). CREPC has 41 member towns and has produced the Regional Emergency Disaster (RED) Plan. Within the committee there are 18 Emergency Support Functions (ESF). Captain Koscuk holds the position of Co-Chair on the EMS division of ESF-8 Public Health. Locally, NBEMS has partnered with the New Britain Fire Department, New Britain Police Department, New Britain Health Department and New Britain General to assist in emergency and disaster preparedness. Most recently, the New Britain Health Department requested assistance from NBEMS during their Point of Distribution Drill. NBEMS provided consultation to Health Department staff in the area of Incident Command System. Non-Emergency EMS Stand-by’s NBEMS deploys EMS units to many special event standby’s each year that collectively draw close to one million people. NBEMS is proud to provide our service often free of charge to city and civic organizations. Some of our major events include: Connecticut Breast Health Iniative “Race in the Park” This annual fundraiser brings over 8,000 participants to Walnut Hill Park in downtown New Britain. NBEMS deploys a full medical tent as well as our bike team and mobile emergency cart. New Britain Stadium, Rockcats Baseball Franchise The New Britain Rockcat the AA affiliate of the Minnesota Twins brings over 300,000 fans to New Britain Stadium annually. New Britain stadium opened on April 12, 1996 and has a capacity of 6,146. NBEMS has partnered with the Rockcats for many years providing EMS services out of the stadium medical office. Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) CCSU is a regional comprehensive public university. The largest of four comprehensive universities within the Connecticut University System, CCSU enrolls nearly 7,000 full-time and nearly 5,000 part-time students. NBEMS is the exclusive provider of the 911 and non-emergency EMS services to the university. NBEMS partners with the Athletic Training Department at CCSU during all Blue Devils sporting events and trains with the department annually as well. New Britain EMS Bicycle Unit NBEMS operates an IPMBA Certified Bicycle Unit which is comprised of an elite group of both EMT’s and Paramedics. IPMBA, the International Police Mountain Bike Association is the certifying agency. IPMBA is the most prestigious and complete training organization for public safety cyclists. IPMBA training programs help our members develop complex slow speed skills which help them safely navigate through large crowds with little effort. We have the capability to bring Advance Life Support to remote and very crowded locations with safe and rapid deployment.
